The new standard that will supersede EN ISO 13849-1:2015 was published in November 2023:
EN ISO 13849-1:2023 Safety of machinery - Safety-related parts of control systems - Part 1: General principles for design.
This standard was harmonised for the EU in May 2024 and designated for the UK in September 2024. It defines a new state of the art for safety-related parts of control systems. Machinery manufactured in conformity with the standard will be presumed to comply with the essential health and safety requirements (EHSRs) of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008. EN ISO 13849-1:2015 will remain a harmonised and designated standard until 15th May 2027 when this status will be withdrawn.
A new version of the accompanying standard EN ISO 13849-2 is under development with the new title Guidance for the design and validation. A new third part is also under development, ISO 13849-3 Markov model-based PFH (average frequency of a dangerous failure per hour) calculation.
Manufacturers of machinery who use EN ISO 13849-1:2015 to demonstrate the conformity of safety-related parts of the control system should be aware of the changes that will affect their machinery– if you have not done so already, we recommend you take appropriate action to determine the impact and make necessary changes on your machinery and technical files immediately.

This one-day of training in aimed to enhance verbal and written communication skills, with a particular focus on the aspects of communication necessary to effectively develop, assess and document compliance of machinery.
Effective communication is critical to the success of any complex project, including product safety and compliance. The development of the design for compliance, and the demonstration that this compliance has been fulfilled rely on both verbal and written communication.
This course provides a basis for understanding key aspects of communication and why it commonly fails, as well as providing practical tips for improving verbal and written communication. The day is highly interactive, providing the opportunity to gain feedback from the trainer and other delegates.
Anyone involved in the design of equipment, production of technical documentation, customer interface or technical sales could benefit from attending this course.

Amtri Veritas presents Rob Smith, Head of Engineering at the National Physical Laboratory.
Rob talks about the benefits of partnering with Amtri Veritas as a training provider for the NPL engineers and scientists.
Amtri Veritas brought all staff members together visiting the AVRO Museum in Stockport - located on the former Woodford Aerodrome, this site saw the production of famous aircraft including the Lancaster, the Vulcan, the Nimrod and the BAe 146 – followed by dining at The Savages in Macclesfield.

The Waste Industry Safety and Health (WISH) Forum have released updated guidelines aimed at ensuring the safe operation of bin lifting equipment. The new guidelines cover a range of safety considerations, including equipment inspections by an UK Approved Body to obtain third party certification.
amtri veritas is an accredited UK Approved Body by UKAS for refuse collection vehicles and can provide manufacturers with all mandatory certification services. Please contact [email protected] if you need our support.

Amtri Veritas has partnered with Tools with a Mission (TWAM), a UK based charity that collects tools, refurbishes them, sorts them into trade tool kits and sends them to the developing world for livelihood creation.
Mike Griffin, Tools with a Mission’s Chief Executive, and James Noble, the Fundraising and Communications Officer, visited Amtri Veritas in January and were warmly welcomed by the whole team. Mike and James told us from first-hand experiences how the work that the charity does, impacts lives. The life stories of people whose lives were transformed were very touching.
Amtri Veritas conducts regular tool collections in the Macclesfield area and raises awareness with clients and within our local community. We look forward to developing this partnership further and working together to create even more livelihoods and transform lives.
Please contact [email protected] or call 01625 412542 if you would like to support our tools collection for Tools with a Mission.
